  <title>Games Above Board and Above The Clouds</title>
  <link>http://www.theplayersclub.org.uk/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=157</link>
  <description>Hello,

As a designer of award-winning board games, my not-so-secret weapon is, I am an international flight attendant and have my captive audience of passengers test-play my prototypes in flight at 37,000 feet.

As Herr Klaus Zoch (Zoch Spiele, Germany) said, &quot;Martin&#039;s games are tested at the highest level!&quot;

I also have other flight attendants and, shh, pilots too. Believe it or not, I have often had 2 of the (oh-so-secret) Federal Air Marshals playing in the galley while drinking airline &#039;coffee&#039;. Bad guys, look out, these guys are armed and tactical!

My best yet was a Rabbi and his wife playing chess, which she was not enjoying as he was unbeatable. I offered them my Mozaic prototype which is luck + strategy. She beat him 3 games in a row and was ecstatic. He asked for the game (if only to practice) but as it was my only prototype at the time, I had to say, &quot;No&quot;. However, it has since been published in 2 formats.

I have actually had repeat customers - i.e. passengers who remember me from previous flights and ask if I have any new games for them to test-play.
One genuine rocket scientist, I kid you not, explained to me that my card game was a matrix ... news to me but he was correct.

Returning from Essen Spiel, Michael Gray of Hasbro was on my flight and I was able to translate German game rules for him.
The absolute classic is, many years ago, we flew to Munich where I was befriended by an airline employee at the airport. She would invite me to stay in her home with her family - a nice change from the hotel. Lo and behold, her husband is none other than Tom Werneck of Spiel des Jahres fame!

For the most part, I receive good feedback (perhaps it&#039;s the altitude) which helps in clarification of the rules. It&#039;s amazing what people will read into the text. If I were to add a &#039;Do Not&#039; list, it would be never-ending. I just say, &quot;If it is not in the rules, don&#039;t do it - unless you wish to design your own game or, your opponent does it first!&quot;

Turbulence has upset the games on occasion which provides a novel use for the flight attendant call-bell.
Free flight benefits are the best for attending game trade shows but a word of warning to the wise... don&#039;t eat the airline food!

My latest, Serpentine, published in Amsterdam on 01.06.2008 by Nova Carta: http://www.novacarta.nl/html/index.html

Free Flash version of my Rhumb Line, playable online by 2 or 1 against the computer: http://www.gameintellect.com/flash-games/rhumb-line.php#men

I am in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, grew up playing games and, on occasion, a local computer game Co. hires me as a consultant ~ their latest is The Lost Treasures Of Alexandria: http://www.stratogon.com/lost_treasures/?refid=413

All the best,
Martin Samuel

  <title>A FREE AND EASY WAY TO PLAY AND PRACTICE MAGIC THE GATHERING ON THE NET</title>
  <link>http://www.theplayersclub.org.uk/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=151</link>
  <description>For all the players who have been playing since the beginning of time you probably already know this.

But if you don’t know there is a programme you can download of the internet for FREE it is called magic workstation

All you need to do is go to; http://www.magicworkstation.com/
Then Download Evaluation.

Then Visit this page to download ur required patch; http://www.mwsgames.com/index.php/Main_Page currently the most recent is lorwyn but there are ways to add Morningtide. (Also im sure a new patch will be ready soon)

Once installed ur ready to play. However at this point the cards only have text and no pictures.

HOW TO ADD THE PICTURES TO THE CARDS??

Ok if I start taking you thru all this, I mite as well retype how to use MWS.

There is lots of info if u type Magic workstation into Goggle or other Search engines. But a site I find useful is; http://www.mwsdata.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=413 this site should answer 90% of ur questions if not just look a little harder.

Any further Questions feel free to message me or add ur question to the New MWS forum

(There is a version of magic workstation where you can pay however there really is no need thats just for extra features, i use my free version to Deck Build and play online)

Regards
